Helping others is in my blood.
Even as a teenager my friends would come to me, sharing their confusion, pain, and anger. I was so honored that they trusted me with their suffering. Back then I had few skills to be of help other than to listen compassionately. I also brought a clear honesty to these conversations, something a bit unique but appreciated. As I moved through my college education, I was gifted outstanding professors and exposed to therapeutic models that provided me skills and knowledge to be of service to others.

In my psychotherapy practice I worked a lot with teenagers, mostly 15 years old. This is a very challenging time for the teen and the parents. Because they were still young I needed to use concrete examples for abstract ideas. I described insight as a person turning the flashlight they have been using to see others—to try to understand their family, friends, teachers—and turning that light slowly towards themselves—to see inward—to begin to answer the essential life question, who am I?
Most adults have formed a sense of identity, an answer to the ‘who am I’ question but, it is limited and not serving them well. They struggle with self-love, and often are stuck and frustrated with the people in their lives. They don’t have the tools they need to expand their understanding of themselves and others. And, in this expansion, we often find our ability to be compassionate and loving increase as well.
I am doing this now in my life, in my retirement because I have a wealth of knowledge that I want to share with others—people like you.
My hope is that we have some time to explore these personality systems so they make sense to you. After we talk at the intake I will help you choose which system(s) will be most helpful to you.

Meet Kim S. Baldwin Ph.D., LP, ABPP
I live in Lake City with my husband, still enjoying the house we raised his three daughters in. Now we get to enjoy spending time with our lovely two grandchildren. I moved to Minnesota in 1988 from Illinois for a job as a psychologist at what became Mayo Clinic Red Wing. I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and went to college in southern Illinois where I completed my Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology. I wanted to move from “Chicago-land” to a smaller town in the Midwest. I made the right choice!!
